COLD, DARK, WET

Issue 18, Winter 2022

Thomas Noland & John F. Williams, Guest Managing Editors

Table of Contents is below this intro

This issue of Salish Magazine is focused on the Cold, Dark, and Wet of Winter. In these grey, wet, and cold days in the Salish Sea, life still goes on. This issue focuses on how plants and animals adapt to the change in seasons. Many animals are very opportunistic in the foraging for food, getting their calories from whatever is available. As you can see from the picture above, sometimes water is available but hard to consume in its solid state. Luckily there are fast moving rivers and streams that don’t freeze up, or even warm water springs. This is one of the many challenges faced in the Cold, Dark, and Wet of Winter.
