Let's try it

some novel additions

By “novel additions” I do not mean that we’re adding novels to Salish Magazine, at least not yet — despite the fact that I have come to realize that novels are actually one of the few good ways to convey things as complex as our ecosystems.

Instead, “novel additions” means that we’re trying out some new things.  In this installment, we’re bringing you two things that we have not featured in Salish Magazine before: a word puzzle and an animated cartoon.

We recently published an issue on spiders and a photo essay on birds.

For this potpourri issue, I could not resist this cartoon which incorporates both.

Since one of Salish Magazine’s goals is to employ engaging visuals to help convey stories, I was thrilled that Rob Lang submitted this cartoon to us, and better yet, he may offer more animated cartoons about nature in the future!

ice age word find

In Spring 2021, our issue was titled: Our Ice Age Heritage. As the Glacier receded, it left behind a trove of words deposited on the landscape.

See if you can find them all.

Hint: these words can all be found in the Language of Glaciers article.

There is a list of words below the puzzle Each time you see one of the listed words in the puzzle, click on the first letter of the word, drag to the last letter, and release. The word should then highlight. If your selection was correct, you’ll see it also highlighted in the word list.

Once you have highlighted all of the listed words, the game will show you how long it took you to do it.

Click on the puzzle name below to get started. Good Luck!
